A month prior to Bishop Andudu's trip to the United States last March 2004, he sent us this report. It gives us an insight into his life and work, and the situation of his people. Some are in the Nuba region, some are in camps far from home, particularly refugee camps scattered throughout Sudan, and in Uganda and Kenya. All fall within his pastoral oversight and work. And then, looming large before Bishop Andudu, there is the task of rebuilding and development, as the peace process continued to grind slowly forward.
Bishop Andudu's Feb. 16. 2004 Report

Bishop Andudu spent his time just prior to coming to the United States visiting places throughout his Diocese and the Refugee Camps further south, as he made his way to Nairobi, Kenya, and this time of departure to the United States.  He describes conducting a workshop, hosting a General Synod, and conducting Ordinations. (Note: the date convention that Bishop Andudu uses is day/month/year.  He begins with a reference to the Advent Trip 2003 of Slater Armstrong, Joining Our Voices, and his recording of the music of the Nuba People in song and praise.)

After we had finished the first trip program of recording music in Nuba Mountains and visiting the church and Nuba Community in Kakuma Camp (Northern Kenya). I had to come to Nairobi to follow up the travelling document.

On 8/1/2004, I flew to Loki and on, 10/1/2004 arrived in Kuda then to Moro Conference which is organized by the government and Moro Community every year to look into Community affairs. We were given the opportunity in the conference to deliver a sermon on Sunday 11/1/2004.

On 14/1/2004 all church participants from the Government of Sudan side additional to those are in the side of SPLM/A we were taken by lorry to the Kajama Church where the workshop is to take place. The lorry was not able to finish the journey, we were taken by three tractors to the workshop venue. That was only means of transport we got.

The workshop took four days and those who attended were 157 priests, Evangelists and women workers (mothers union). Under the them:

God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding…(Nehemiah 2:20)

We started with introductions. It was the first time in 20 years for us to meet together in one place from Government of Sudan side and the side of SPLM/A. We had invited two persons from Khartoum Diocese to teach in the workshop (Rev. Musa Elgadi principal of Shokai Bible Training Institute) who is also Commissary of Khartoum Diocese and Elizabeth Aya Mothers Union leader. And also Atim De Gak from Renk Diocese and the rest from Diocese of Kadugli Nuba Mountains.

The topics covered were:

  • The pastoral work.
  • Evangelism.
  • Administration.
  • The role of mothers union in the Church.
  • Development.
  • Anglican Communion and topics from common book of prayer.
  • First Aid.

On Sunday 18/1/2004, we conducted an ordination of Deacons, priesthood, and licensing Evangelists and mothers union.

On 21/1/2004 and 22/01/2004, it was our first General Synod after our consecration. All churches gave reports about their work, Diocese Administration gave their reports, all were discussed in-groups.

Some of the diocese vacant offices were filled, we have organized the diocese administration by forming and approving four (4) archdeaconries and 7 deaneries, giving job description to every diocesan officer including parish priests.

The evaluation of the reports, spiritual growth was very good but churches lacking teaching and training there great demand for  re-opening the Bishop Mubark Bible Institute (BMBI) which stopped last two years of lack of funds .

And general development were very poor, there is need of Transportation means in the diocese, Communication, fixed income recourses (agriculture), Church Schools, Health services an, clean drinking Water and rebuild the church buildings destroyed and burned during War time.

In the same regard the diocese appreciated the spiritual and development support of the partner diocese of Bradford and Salisbury diocese as well. And the efforts of Bishop Mubarak Korkel Fund for supporting four Kindergartens and literacy classes, they hoped this services to include the SPLM/A side where there is no any of this development. And many other resolutions.

General synod approved new Logo for the diocese and construction of web site for the diocese by the help of our brothers from US, after the first group of Germany committed to other bigger work. People were happy and clapped on hearing this good news and being first diocese in Sudan among 24 dioceses to construct web site of its own.

People are also grateful for the effort of a planning of a trip for US sponsored by churches and brothers form us. They are praying for the success of the trip.

On 23/1/2004, we closed General Synod all work was well done successfully, even though the budget was not enough but people were determined to go on.

These activities united people and brought hope and encouragement in work under new diocesan administration.

We are very grateful for the dioceses, churches, organizations and individuals in US who stood with us in prayers and funds to implement all this activities successfully, also special thanks to the diocese of Rank and Khartoum and all churches and people of God in the diocese of Kadugli Nuba Mountains who stood firm to see success of the programs.

The year has begun with hope and good activities, God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding. (Nehemiah 2:20)

May the almighty God bless you all abundantly,

Rt. Rev. Andudu Adam Elnail.

Bishop of Kadugli Nuba Mountains Diocese.
