Grain Project

Goal - $1,900

Raised - $1,000   Needed - $900

This is a project in the tradition of Joseph during his time as overseer in the land of Egypt. He was given the responsibility for caring for the people in a time of coming adversity.  The adversity in this situation in the Nuba is the return of massive numbers of people to their homelands. Many of those returning are orphans of war. Others our widows with small children. As they return, they will have in the short term little in the way of support for providing for themselves.  Bishop Andudu has established this grain project in order to assist in the feeding of the returning refugees to their homes.

The BBC reported January 13, 2005:

"Sudan refugees start to return."

"After the signing of a deal to end more than 20 years of war in southern Sudan, some of those who fled their homes are starting to go back home. But the towns and villages they escaped from are not ready to cope with the influx. Some four million Sudanese fled the fighting - the world's largest displaced community, according to the United Nations."

Bishop Andudu and those in leadership are doing what they can to assist in the return of displaced persons.  Help us meet this modest goal of $900.

Feb. 23, 2005 update on food situation in Southern and Central Sudan:

"The World Food Program says a fast increase in food prices over the last few months, combined with malnutrition, food insecurity and the lack of purchasing power of poor families have raised the alarm that many more people than previously thought are facing food shortages . . . . If there are no increases in food donations, WFP could run out of food at the end of March for the southern, eastern and central regions of Sudan."  ["Food shortage looming in Sudan," Kathrine Arms, UPI, Washington Times, Feb. 23, 2005. http://www.washtimes.com/upi-breaking/20050222-114132-2105r.htm ]
