NCFM Goal: $30,000  -- Amount Raised in 2004: $10,050

If the first High School in the Nuba is an exciting development, the story behind the beginning of ECS Hope Primary is another grand story.  Thanks to the coming together of a grant from the Gadsden Endowment in Virginia and the leadership from the Nuba Education Governing Council, the Sudan People Liberation Movement / Army (SPLM/A), and the Episcopal Diocese of Kadugli-Nuba Mountains, the first primary school was reopened.

This school is not simply a primary school as we would think of it in this county.  Because there has been such a loss in schooling over the course of the civil war, this school serves not only the young children, but in addition the youth, ages 10-18, and in the evenings, offers an adult education program.  As you will see from the report from Bishop Andudu below, classes opened October 1, 2004 with an enrollment in all levels of 423 students.

We received Bishop Andudu's report Oct. 21, 2004.  Click here to read his report.

We received Bishop Andudu's second report February 22, 2005.  Three pictures came with the report and can be viewed on the page "Images from Nuba."

TOMLO HOPE MODIE PRIMARY SCHOOL (Second Report)

Tomlo Hope Model Primary school was officially registered under the Episcopal Church of the Sudan Kadudli county Nuba mountains New Sudan Year 2004. And it is first school of the diocese of Kadugli, Professional teacher brought from East Africa (Uganda and Kenya) and professional Local teacher because we have no enough teachers in Whole Region of Nuba Mountains this is one of the big challenge to the People and Government of Nuba Mountains.

The school was named Hope because it had brought Hope for the generations that missed school for almost two decade of war for Example in Standered one B these are grown up children of age 13-28 they are happy to be in the School at last.

Adults request teacher in the Evening for English classes. Now 14 person are in adult learning in evenings.

Pre School Class is big in number but there is no teacher we request volunteers to teach but from time to another we keep changing them the process is not stable.

Really the school become Hope and light in the area the number of pupils increased so much after the good news of school spread, but the administration had to stop others because class are big and numbers of teachers are few they cannot control some classes.

The academics is going on well and the standards of the pupils is good.

Once more on behalf of Tomlo area we would like to thank Mission Outreach Grants Committee of the Gadsden Endowment for they funds the gave it made a big change we pray that God continue to use them to help many people in Nuba Mountains who are in need of education, and we appeal for others also to join us because the challenge is big as it is mentioned below.
